How Supply Chain Finance started at Siemens and the lessons from 15 years of success

The Working Capital Forum, September 2023

In 2008, Siemens began the modern era of supply chain finance with a programme that has since grown to cover 4,844 suppliers in 35 countries. But what was it like to be there at the very beginning?

In this special Working Capital Forum webinar, we bring together three colleagues who worked together at the start of the programme and have watched it grow to cover 120 Siemens entities with 18 funding banks.

Friedemann Kirchhof (Head of Supply Chain Finance @Siemens), Douglas Schoch (Vice President, Siemens Financial Services @Siemens) and Markus Schiffers (Managing Director @Orbian) relive the early years of one the world’s biggest supplier finance projects.

Among the topics we’ll be covering are:

  • Persuading internal stakeholders to support the project
  • Building a team to deliver the programme
  • Onboarding suppliers & explaining the benefits
  • Rolling out the programme globally
  • SCF as a competitive advantage
  • What lessons have been learnt?

As part of the conversation, we’ll be taking questions from our global audience of treasury and procurement professionals and opening the debate to look at what the future holds for SCF at Siemens and elsewhere.
